WELCOME
Step into the captivating world of the STEM Mirror
...Where global health, biology, and science meet the everyday realities of life. We simplify complex scientific concepts, making them more approachable and relatable than ever before. We analyze the biology behind your day-to-day activities - from the science that explains why onions make you cry to the biomechanics behind your favorite athletic feats.
OUR GOAL
Our discussions traverse to larger scales as well
...like how global health policies shape our world, from the air you breathe to the food on your table. How does climate change affect the global economy, or how does your local health policy impact your daily routines? The STEM Mirror is dedicated to breaking down these complex scenarios, ensuring you're not just aware of these topics, but understand them.
We'll also feature women of color who are at the frontlines, applying science to real-world issues and making a difference.
In the special "Unsung STEM" series, we will spotlight women of color who are using science, math and technology to improve the world we live in. We will uncover their stories to provide practical examples of how science and ingenuity can create change.
Our platform isn't just about scientific literacy. It's about fostering a sense of curiosity, encouraging our audience, particularly young women of color, to delve into science and see themselves in these exciting narratives. With The STEM Mirror, you won't just learn science, you'll live it.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Isha Kapoor
I am a senior at Mayo High School in Rochester, Minnesota, and President of the Minnesota Junior Academy of Science. I am passionate about scientific research, global health issues, and equity. This platform reflects the intersection of my love for science and writing. My goal is to bring forth important scientific issues that impact our daily lives and are compelling to school-aged children.
Participating in research and science fairs since middle school has been a thrilling and transformative experience for me. It has allowed me to grow as a young scientist, enhance my understanding of the scientific method, and nurture my creative and analytical skills. On a personal level, it has boosted my self-confidence and provided me with a platform to make unforgettable friendships and build precious memories.
I am committed to helping younger students become enthusiastic about research. Utilizing funding from The Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, I have founded STEMGlow, the first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) mentorship program for girls of color in the Rochester Public School district. This program will go beyond the approach of textbook learning and will allow middle school students to engage in real, hands-on research.
An advocate for equity in education and health, I serve as the chair of my high school’s equity team, and the youth representative on the Olmsted County Public Health Advisory Board. In my free time, I enjoy unwinding with a good book, expressing myself through dance and piano, exploring nature on hikes, and giving back to my community through volunteering.
